Position Summary

Seeking applicants available for casual or part time work including weekend work

The role is an Indigenous-identified position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

The Koorie Heritage Trust provides cultural walks inclusive of our galleries and exhibitions as well as a walk along the Yarra River and Birrarung Marr. Tours are open to the general public, school groups, corporate groups and tourism. Our Cultural Guides are responsible for conducting these tours and engaging with any visitors to the Koorie Heritage Trust to support their experience in understanding and connecting to the unique cultures of Aboriginal Victoria.

As part of the role, we will provide practical on the job training and experience through tours to support of gaining knowledge (including cultural) required to conduct KHT cultural walking tours

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking guided cultural tours/walks through the Koorie Heritage Trust and along the Yarra River, Birrarung Marr and the sport and entertainment precinct for KHT visitors, school groups and organisations including government and corporates
  • Welcoming all visitors and guests to the KHT, being aware of cultural sensitivities as appropriate
  • Answering general public enquiries on the KHT and Koorie culture, heritage and art
  • Contribute to a safe, comfortable and clean environment for all KHT visitors and guests
  • Support the Tours Coordinator and contribute to team discussions and development of KHT cultural tours
  • Assist with front of house duties as required including rostering onto the KHT’s Wominjeka and Reception desks
  • All other duties as directed by the CEO, Cultural Experiences Manager and Tours Coordintaor within the scope of the employee’s skill level and training

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • An understanding and commitment to the support, promotion and celebration of Victorian Aboriginal culture and heritage
  • Excellent presentation, client service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral communications skills including ability to deal with members of the public

Desirable

  • Physical ability to conduct walking tours from 1 to 2 hours in length.
