A special school holiday workshop for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children making cultural objects for dance.
Tania Rossi (Yorta Yorta, Wiradjuri) , an educator at KHT, will guide kids and their carers in different techniques for making dance belts, arm bands, head attire and more using materials such as jute, raffia, emu feathers.
Tania will yarn with the kids about culture, identity and her own cultural journey. This is a safe space for kids to express their identity and create something that reflects who they are and who they want to be.
Tania is a proud Yorta Yorta/Wiradjuri woman who has been raised by a very strong lineage of Aboriginal women who have pathed her way to where she is today. Tania is very passionate about correcting the misconceptions of her people and their history through education. She is very passionate about correcting the wrongs that society believes by sharing her experiences of growing up as an Aboriginal child in the 80’s and 90’s, then heading into the workplace in the 90’s and how society perceived Aboriginal people to be. Tania always abides by her great grandmother’s words “it doesn’t matter if you are black, white or brindle, always treat people how you wish to be treated”.
