The 2024 National NAIDOC Week theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.

The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of First Peoples cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“Blak, Loud and Proud” encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of First Peoples identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world. This theme calls for a reclamation of narratives, an amplification of voices, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

KHT is proud to present a special First Peoples market for NAIDOC, spanning two days at Fed Square.

Over 25 stalls showcasing First Peoples cultural objects, craft, design, fashion, jewellery, gifts and more. Plus an Elders’ Lounge and free drop-in workshops with Sammy Trist (Gum Leaf Painting), Tania Rossi (Gum Nut Necklace) and Ange Jeffery (Deadly Bracelet Making). While visiting, take the opportunity to view the final days of our current exhibition JXSH MVIR Forever I Live.

Our market on Friday 12 July also coincides with NAIDOC IN THE CITY presented by the City of Melbourne, featuring live entertainment on the Fed Square main stage, and the coming together of community with food, give-aways and fun events.

While on Saturday 13 July head across Fed Square to The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia to enjoy a day of free celebrations featuring art, workshops, film screenings and artist talks for all ages.
